Apple has introduced a new generation of AirTag, its best-selling item finder for tracking essentials such as keys, wallets, and luggage. The updated Apple AirTag 2 features:

  • Expanded Bluetooth range and precision-finding that reaches 50% farther
  • A louder speaker that is audible at twice the previous distance
  • Strong privacy protections
  • Dedication to environmental responsibility

After its launch in 2021, Apple AirTag 2 has become a trusted tool for many, helping locate lost items through Apple’s Find My Network and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for precise direction and distance guidance. The new Apple AirTag 2026 builds on this foundation with hardware upgrades, including Apple’s second-generation UWB chip, the same technology used in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models, giving users greater confidence when tracking belongings.

What’s New in the AirTag 2?

Expanded Precision Finding & Range

The new Apple AirTag 2’s major improvements are:

  • Upgraded Precision Finding
  • An expanded Bluetooth range

Precision Finding uses UWB haptics, visual cues, and sound to guide users directly to their AirTag. The latest chip now enables this feature up to 50% farther, making it easier to locate items in busy or large spaces.

Bluetooth tracker connectivity has been improved to extend the device’s findable range beyond previous AirTag models. If an item is out of Bluetooth range, the Find My Network, which includes hundreds of millions of Apple devices, can still help locate it by securely and anonymously reporting its approximate position. For the first time, its Compatibility with iPhone & Apple Watch Series 9 or later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, enables Precision Finding for AirTags from the wrist, delivering a convenient way to track items while on the go.

Louder Alerts And Distinctive Feedback

A common issue with small trackers is hearing alerts from a distance. Apple addresses this with a Louder speaker’s details, 50% louder than before, so the chime carries almost twice as far. Improved visual and haptic feedback on iPhones and Apple Watches enhances the ability to locate nearby items.

These changes make it much easier to find items under furniture, in bags, or in busy areas.

Share Item Location Helps in Real Recovery Scenarios.

Apple AirTag 2 now integrates with Share Item Location in iOS, allowing you to securely and temporarily share the location of a lost item with trusted third parties, such as airline staff or friends assisting in a search. Apple partners with over 50 global airlines to integrate these links into their carrier systems, helping reduce baggage delays and improve lost-item recovery.

This feature broadens Apple AirTag 2’s use from personal tracking to collaborative recovery.

Designed for privacy and the environment for Apple AirTag 2.

The new Apple AirTag 2, like its predecessor, prioritizes privacy and security. Location data isn’t stored on the Apple AirTag 2, and all communication with the Find My Network is end-to-end encrypted, so only the owner can access location information. Apple uses high levels of recycled materials in the tracker and recyclable fiber-based packaging.

As you consider accessories, it’s important to note that the Fine Woven Keyring remains fully compatible, maintaining both style and functionality alongside these improvements.

Pricing And Compatibility

The new Apple AirTag 2 is available today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app, with pricing unchanged from the previous generation: $29 (US) for a single unit and $99 (US) for a four-pack. To use the new AirTag, you need an iPhone running iOS 26 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later and Find My enabled. Precision finding on Apple Watch is supported on Series 9 or Ultra 2 models running watchOS 26.2.1 or later.
