Apple has declared a $100B expansion of its Apple US manufacturing, raising its 4-year initial investment pledge to $600B. The initiative features the new American Manufacturing Program, a 250,000 sq ft server factory in Texas, and full domestic production of iPhone and Apple Watch glass in Kentucky. This record investment will support the creation of 20,000 new jobs.

Main points of Apple’s U.S. expansion

  • Apple’s total U.S. investment will reach $600 billion over four years, with a focus on artificial intelligence and silicon engineering.
  • Manufacturing expansion: A new 250,000-square-foot facility in Houston will begin Apple Manufacturing USA’s mass production of Apple servers in 2026 to support Apple Intelligence.
  • 100% domestic glass: Apple and Corning are partnering to ensure all Apple iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass is manufactured in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
  • The expansion will create 20,000 new jobs in research, development, artificial intelligence, and software development.
  • Manufacturing Academies – Apple will open a new Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, Michigan, to train small and medium-sized businesses in advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
  • Key Partners: The expansion comprises collaboration with Corning, Texas Instruments, Amkor, Broadcom, Global Wafers, and TSMC.

Apple has committed an additional $100 billion, bringing total planned US investment to $600 billion over the next four years.

The American Manufacturing Program will expand Apple’s supply chain and advanced manufacturing in the US. With AMP, Apple seeks to boost domestic production and encourage global suppliers to manufacture essential components in America.

Today, we are proud to increase our investments across the United States to $600 billion over four years and launch our new American manufacturing program, said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. This includes new and expanded work with 10 companies across America that produce components used in Apple products sold all over the world, and we are grateful to the president for his support in explaining why Apple is expanding manufacturing in the US.

Apple manufactures parts and components in the United States for global distribution. Approximately 2/3rds of these U.S.-made components are exported to customers worldwide.

Early Impact On Jobs And Supply Chain

Apple partners with thousands of suppliers across all 50 states, supporting over 450,000 jobs. Over the next four years, Apple plans to hire 20,000 people across R&D, silicon engineering, software development, AI, and machine learning.

Apple American Manufacturing Program

Apple Investment News indicates that Apple is collaborating with suppliers to accelerate manufacturing through the American Manufacturing Program. Initial AMP partners include Corning, Coherent, Global Wafers America, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments, Samsung, Global Foundries, Amkor, and Broadcom. This effort builds on Apple’s July pledge to purchase American-made rare-earth magnets from AMP materials.

The American Manufacturing Program will fund a major expansion of Apple’s partnership with Corning, establishing the world’s largest smartphone glass production line in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Soon, all iPhones and Apple Watches will feature Kentucky-made cover glass. Apple and Corning will also open a new innovation center in Kentucky.

Apple has signed a new multi-year agreement with Coherent, a long-term partner that produces VCSEL lasers for features such as Face ID on iPhone and iPad devices. Production occurs at Coherent’s facility in Sherman, Texas.

In July, Apple factories in the USA committed to purchasing American-made rare-earth magnets from MPA Materials, the only fully integrated rare-earth producer in the United States. This partnership will expand the MPA Materials Independence Facility in Fort Worth, Texas. The magnets will be used in Apple devices worldwide, and the company will establish a Rare Earth recycling line in Mountain Pass, California.
