Although the M5 model offers improved performance, it retains the same pass-through cameras as the original, which have received some criticism. The upgraded headset delivers a more refined and responsive spatial computing experience, but it may not be essential for current M2 users.

Apple has introduced the Apple Vision Pro, featuring the M5 chip that delivers enhanced performance, improved display rendering, faster AI-powered workflows, and longer battery life. The updated Vision Pro includes the dual-net band for greater comfort and Vision OS 26, which offers new features such as widgets, new personas, an interactive Jupiter environment, and expanded Apple intelligence features with additional language support. The App Store now offers over 1 million apps and thousands of games, while the Apple TV app features hundreds of 3D movies. Apple Immersive introduces new series and films with live NBA games coming soon. Vision Pro with M5 and the Dual-NET band is available at apple.com. Customers can book a demo at Apple Store locations, and the device will be available nationwide on Wednesday, October 22.

With the breakthrough performance of M5, the latest Apple Vision Pro delivers faster performance, sharper details throughout the system, and even more battery life, establishing a new standard for what’s possible in spatial computing, said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing. Combined with the dual-nit band, new features in Vision OS 26, and Apple Immersive Events across adventure, documentary, music, and sports, the new Vision Pro makes spatial computing more capable and engaging.

A Stride Ahead In Performance With the M5

The M5 chip delivers a faster, smoother, and more responsive performance for Apple Vision Pro users, while enabling developers to create advanced, special, and immersive applications. Built with 3rd Gen 3nm technology, the M5 features a 10-core CPU for improved multi-threaded performance, resulting in quicker app and widget load durations and more responsive web browsing. The 10-core GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, letting developers enhance lighting, shadows, and reflections in games such as Control.

With the M5 chip, Apple Vision Pro renders 10% more pixels on its custom micro-OLED displays than the previous generation, resulting in sharper images, clearer text, and improved visuals. Vision Pro can increase the refresh rate up to 120 Hz to reduce motion blur when viewing physical surroundings and provide a better experience with the Mac virtual display. The M5 works with the R1 chip, which handles input from 12 cameras, 5 sensors, and 6 microphones, streaming new images to the displays within 12 milliseconds. For instant viewing, the battery now supports up to 2.5 hours of general use and up to 3 hours of video playback on a single charge. Users can extend usage by connecting the battery to power at home, in the office, or while commuting.

The 16-core neural engine enables AI-powered features to run up to 50% faster for system experiences, such as capturing a persona or transforming photos into special scenes, and up to twice as fast for third-party apps compared to the previous generation. With M5 developers like JIGspace, are launching new enterprise use cases that combine special computing with on-device AI. Leveraging Apple’s base model framework, the new JIGSpace app for Vision Pro uses the on-device model at the core of Apple Intelligence to simplify complex information. Users can analyze detailed datasets using natural language and explore sophisticated objects, such as wind turbines, through interactive 3D models.

The New Dual-Knit Band Delivers A More Comfortable Fit

The dual-kit band delivers enhanced comfort with upper and lower straps 3D knitted as a single piece, creating a dual rib structure for cushioning, breathability, and stretching. The lower strap includes flexible fabric ribs with tungsten inserts providing a counterweight for improved comfort, balance, and stability. The dual-function fit dial permits precise adjustments for an optimal fit. The dual-knit band is available in small, medium, and large sizes, can be purchased separately, and is compatible with the previous generation Apple Vision Pro. Apple Vision Pro. Customers can determine their ideal size using the Apple Store app for iPhone.

Powerful Spatial Experiences with Vision OS 26

Vision OS 26 launches advanced spatial experiences to Apple Vision Pro. Digits integrate into the user’s space and reappear with each use, giving quick access to time, weather, music, podcasts, photos, and ChatGPT. Enhanced persona features make communication in apps like FaceTime more natural. Special scenes use generative AI to add depth to photos, bringing memories vividly. Users can play back 180-degree, 360-degree, and wide-field-of-view videos from action cameras, and creators can publish these formats in apps like Safari and Vimeo. With iPadOS 26.1 available later this fall, the Apple Vision Pro app will be available on iPad, letting users discover content, queue downloads, find tips, and access information about their Vision Pro.
