Dolby Introduces New Advantages In Home Entertainment

Right before CES, Dolby and LG launched the LG Sound Suite, a modular home audio system that uses Dolby Atmos Flex Connect. This system features the first soundbar with this technology and can support up to 27 speakers. LG also plans to bring Dolby Atmos Flex Connect to its latest premium TVs, including some 2025 models with a future software update.

Dolby Atmos Accelerates Acceptance Among 35+ Global Auto Brands.

More than 35 carmakers now use Dolby Atmos, offering it in over 150 models from luxury cars to entry-level vehicles with basic audio systems. Some brands include Dolby Atmos in all their cars. Momentum for Dolby Vision is growing as well, with its appearances in more vehicles such as the NIO 89 (making its first appearance at CES this week) and the Mahindra XUV 7 XO (the first car in India to feature both technologies). Building on this progress, Dolby will highlight its improved automotive advancements at CES Demo Impressions with new announcements and its first automotive showroom at Dolby Live, featuring the latest models from Audi, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, NIO, and Porsche.

Smartphones are an important part of daily life, including for in-car entertainment. At CES, Dolby and Mercedes-Benz are showing how smooth this experience can be. This week, Mercedes-Benz announced it is one of the first car makers to offer spatial audio with Dolby Atmos via Apple CarPlay in its newest models, including the electric GLC, CLA, and GLB. Extending these benefits beyond new vehicles, Pioneers SPHERA is extending immersive audio to more drivers. As the first aftermarket in-dash receiver with Dolby Atmos, it enables drivers to add this technology to cars they already own. Not just a few vehicles, even with simple 4-channel audio systems, SPHERA makes Dolby Atmos possible for many vehicles already on the road.

At CES, Dolby is further illustrating what in-car entertainment could look like. Game developers like SmashLabs, including AudioKinetic Wwise, are bringing immersive multi-channel games to cars with Dolby Atmos, giving drivers and passengers new ways to enjoy sound on the road. Meanwhile, Dolby and Qualcomm are presenting their latest partnership, which brings Dolby’s newest automotive product to Qualcomm’s Gen 5 Snapdragon Automotive platform. This partnership demonstrates how carmakers can add Dolby features to their next infotainment systems, including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby AC4. Dolby AC4 is the company’s top audio codec offering smoother high-quality streaming and helping carmakers lower audio data costs by up to 60%.
