At 12:56 PM CDT on Monday, four Artemis II astronauts set a new space flight record. They reached 248,655 miles from Earth, surpassing Apollo 13’s distance in 1970. Orion will peak at about 252,756 miles before returning. This marks a milestone in human space travel.  

Six days into the first crewed Artemis mission, astronauts Wiseman, Glover, Koch, and Hansen continued taking photos of the moon as they traveled farther from Earth.  

At NASA, we dare to reach higher, explore farther, and achieve the impossible. That’s embodied perfectly by our Artemis II astronauts, Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy. They are charting uncharted territories for all humanity, said Dr. Glaze, Acting Associate Administrator, regarding the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. Their commitment is about more than breaking records. It’s powering our hope for a bold future. Their mission is to carry out our pledge to return to the moon’s surface, this time to stay, as we build a moon base. Following their historic achievement, NASA’s Orion spacecraft launched on April 1 using the Space Launch System rocket from Kennedy Space Center. The next day, Orion performed engine burns to leave Earth’s orbit and head to the Moon. 

After setting the new record, the crew shared brief, heartfelt remarks. Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen spoke to the world from aboard Orion.  

From the cabin of Integrity here, as we surpass the furthest distance humans have ever traveled from planet Earth, we do so in honoring the extraordinary efforts and feats of our predecessors in manned space exploration. We will continue our journey even further into space before Mother Earth succeeds in dragging us back to everything that we hold dear. Along with breaking the spaceflight record, the crew suggested naming two lunar craters, one after their spacecraft, Integrity, and another honoring Wiseman’s late wife, Carol. After the mission, these names will be submitted to the International Astronomical Union, which oversees the naming of astronomical features. Looking ahead, the crew will pass within about 4,067 miles of the moon’s surface. They will be the first to see some areas on the far side and witness a solar eclipse. During this phase, NASA expects a 40-minute planned communications blackout as the moon blocks signals between Orion and Earth. Once Orion emerges, it should quickly reconnect with flight controllers in Houston. 

During the lunar flyby, many cameras will capture images of the Moon, including areas never seen before. The astronauts will use different digital handheld cameras to take high-resolution photos of the lunar surface. Artemis II gives the crew a chance to collect valuable data. Direct observations are a powerful tool for studying the Moon’s features in varying lighting and texture. 

Photos, videos, telemetry, and communication data from this test flight will guide future Artemis missions as NASA works to build its moon base.  

The Artemis II astronauts have passed the halfway point of their mission. The crew is expected to splash down off the coast of San Diego at about 8:07 PM EDT (5:07 PM PDT) on Friday, April 10. After the splashdown, recovery teams will retrieve the crew by helicopter. They will then transport the astronauts to the USS John P. Murtha. The astronauts will receive post-flight medical exams in the ship’s infirmary. Later, they will return to shore and board the aircraft for NASA Johnson.  

Through the Artemis initiative, NASA aims to return humans to the moon and establish a sustainable presence there. The program will send astronauts on progressively challenging missions to explore more of the lunar surface. Artemis missions will advance scientific research, foster economic development, and help lay the foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars.

The update will begin rolling out next week. We’ll update our Google ranking updates page when it starts and when it’s finished, which may take up to two weeks. This update adds a new site-wide signal that we use along with other signals to rank web pages. Our systems automatically look for content that has little value, no added value, or isn’t very helpful to searchers.  

Any content on sites with a lot of unhelpful material is less likely to rank well in search, especially if better content is available elsewhere. Removing unhelpful content can improve your pages’ rankings. 

You might wonder how long it takes for a site to improve after removing unhelpful content. Sites affected by this update may have the signal applied for several months. Over time, our system runs continuously, checking both new and existing sites. Once it sees that unhelpful content hasn’t come back over time, the classification will be removed. The classification process is entirely automated using a machine learning model. It is not a manual or spam action. Instead, it is just another signal, one of many that Google evaluates to rank content.

The April 2026 update fixes over 45 security problems. Of these, Samsung and the Android security team say 14 are very serious. These major issues primarily affect the phone’s most important parts and hardware. If not fixed, hackers could take control of parts of the phone or get access they shouldn’t have, possibly even reaching private parts of the system without the user’s knowledge.  

This update also includes important fixes from Google that keep the main system safe. Samsung has added fixes for issues unique to Galaxy devices. By doing both, Samsung ensures the system and its features are well protected.  

Hardening Semiconductor And Firmware Layers. 

A significant part of the update focuses on the basic chips and software that run devices. Samsung’s chip division has fixed four major security issues. CISA recommends that organizations take these steps to secure their OT environments:  

  • Require phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (methods that are resistant to email or message-based fraud), especially for vendor remote access.  
  • Disconnect operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS) from the public internet.  
  • Apply patches promptly to fix known vulnerabilities.  
  • Keep information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) networks separate and disable shared accounts.  
  • Report incidents to CISA immediately through the agency’s industry reporting system.

Iran-affiliated advanced enduring threat (APT) actors are conducting exploitation activities targeting internet-facing operational technology (OT) devices, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) manufactured by Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley. This activity has led to PLC disruptions across several US critical infrastructure sectors through malicious interactions with the project file and manipulation of data on human-machine interface (HMI) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) displays, resulting in operational disruption and financial loss.  

US organizations should quickly review the TTPs and IOCs outlined in this advisory to identify potential threats on their networks, and follow the recommendations in the mitigations section to reduce risk.  

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), National Security Agency (NSA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Energy (DOE), and United States Cyber Command-Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF), hereafter referred to as the authoring agencies, are urgently warning US organizations of ongoing cyber exploitation of internet-connected operational technology (OT) devices, including Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley manufactured programmable logic controllers (PLCs), across multiple US critical infrastructure sectors. As a result of this activity, organizations across multiple U.S. critical infrastructure sectors experienced disruptions due to malicious interactions with project files and the manipulation of data displayed on Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) displays. In a few cases, this activity has led to operational disruptions and financial losses.  

Given the widespread use of these PLCs and related OT devices, the authoring agencies advise U.S. organizations to review these advisories, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), as well as indicators of compromise (IoCs). Organizations should monitor for suspicious activity and follow mitigation recommendations.  

The authoring agencies assess that a group of Iranian-affiliated advanced enduring threat, APT actors, is conducting this activity to cause disruptive effects within the United States. The group has targeted devices spanning multiple U.S. critical infrastructure sectors, including government services and facilities (including local municipalities), water and wastewater systems (WWS), and energy sectors. The authoring agencies previously reported on similar activity targeting PLCs by CyberAV3Engers (aka Shahid Kaveh Group), a cyber threat actor affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Cyber Electronic Command (CEC).  

If owners or operators find an affected internet-accessible device in their environment, they may need to take extra technical measures to assess the risk. They should contact the authoring agencies and relevant vendors through their usual support channels for help with support, mitigation, and investigation. Organizations should also activate their cyber incident reaction plans.  

In addition to contacting the authoring agencies, organizations with Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley-manufactured PLCs should review the manufacturer’s previously issued guidance to strengthen the security of their operational technology deployments. PN-1555-CVE-2021-22-681 authentication bypass vulnerability found in Logix controllers, published in 2021, and SD-1771. Rockwell Automation reiterates its guidance to customers to disconnect devices from the internet and harden PLCs to protect against cyberattacks. Published in 2026. Microsoft has launched a standardized physical infrastructure designed to extend advanced computing capabilities to the network edge. The “modular rack” architecture enables rapid deployment of high-density server clusters in environments such as remote industrial sites, shipping terminals, and geographically distributed healthcare facilities. The primary objective is to minimize the spatial and thermal footprint of advanced data processing units, distributed hardware architecture facilities, low latency, and site-specific decision-making.  

The Engineering of Modular Scalability 

Building on this, the new system uses a “blade on rail” design, so you can swap or upgrade individual compute modules without turning off the whole rack. Each module has its own cooling and power controls. This setup means that if one part fails, it won’t affect the rest of the system. It also lets you combine different processor types as needed.  

The chassis is built to fit inside standard shipping containers or small utility closets. Its tough exterior shields the hardware from dust, moisture, and vibration, making it well-suited for industrial use. This sturdy design allows the equipment to operate in harsh environments without the need for a climate-controlled room. Inside, the layout uses a vertical chimney effect to help airflow and naturally carry heat away.  

Liquid to Air Thermal Management 

Switching focus to thermal management, a specialized liquid-to-air heat-exchange system maintains the rack’s temperature. This approach removes the need for big, power-hungry external chillers. A non-conductive coolant flows through the heat sinks on the powerful processors, carrying heat up to a large radiator at the top of the rack. Big, slow-moving fans then blow air over the radiator to cool the liquid.  

This closed-circuit system works efficiently in many different climates. It keeps the hardware cool even in hot places like deserts or factory floors. Because the cooling fans use less extra power, the rack gets a better energy efficiency rating. This is especially important for remote sites with limited power, ensuring that most of the electricity is used for computing.  

Moving from hardware to software, integrating distributed intelligence protocols becomes essential. 

A specialized software layer, Edge Orchestration, manages the modular compute racks. This protocol coordinates thousands of racks into a unified distributed supercomputing cluster. It assigns tasks based on data source proximity, optimizing workload distribution. If the physical chassis or firmware is tampered with, the system immediately locks the stored data. Differential privacy algorithms embedded in the silicon protect individual data points while enabling statistical analysis for actionable insights.  

Biometric access panels installed on rack doors enforce physical security. Before maintenance, users must complete multi-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access to remote or unsupervised sites. Racks are equipped with active ensure: If a breach or unauthorized movement is detected, the system immediately deletes internal encryption keys from storage.  

Extending Connectivity via Satellite 

Integrated satellite uplinks ensure rack operation in environments lacking reliable terrestrial connectivity. High-throughput satellite links provide communications redundancy when primary fiber links fail (which is crucial for mobile developments, deployments such as ships or remote extraction sites). During off-peak hours, the system synchronizes its global state data with the central platform to keep edge models up to date.  

Satellite connectivity enables secure over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, eliminating the need for on-site technician visits for routine maintenance. The system autonomously downloads and installs update packages during scheduled maintenance windows. Automated self-healing and self-updating routines lower total operating expenditure and increase edge rack autonomy.
