Expanding Microsoft Security Copilot With New AI Agent Capabilities

To keep up, scaling defenses with AI agents is a must. We’re adding six new security agents from Microsoft and five from our partners to Security Co‑Pilot, which will be available for preview in April 2025.  

Six New AI Agent Solutions From Microsoft Security 

The six new Microsoft Security Copilot agents help teams handle large volumes of security and IT tasks independently, and they work seamlessly with Microsoft security tools. These agents are built for security. Learn from feedback. Adapt to your workflows and follow Microsoft’s zero-trust framework with Teams in control. Agents speed up responses, focus on the biggest risks, and help organizations protect themselves more efficiently.  

Security co-pilot agents will be available throughout Microsoft’s security platform and are designed for the following tasks:  

  • The phishing triage agent in Microsoft Defender automatically classifies phishing alerts, distinguishing between genuine threats and false positives. It provides clear explanations for each decision and refines its detection processes using administrator feedback.  
  • Alert triage agents in Microsoft Purview identify the most important Data Loss Prevention and Insider Risk alerts. They improve their prioritization accuracy over time, using administrator input to refine results.  
  • The Conditional Access Optimization Agent in Microsoft Intra continuously monitors for new users or applications outside current access policies. It flags these gaps, recommends specific policy updates, and offers easy-to-apply fixes for identity teams.  
  • The vulnerability remediation agent in Microsoft Intune ranks vulnerabilities and recommends fixes for speeding up OS patching after admin approval.  
  • The threat intelligence briefing agent in Security Copilot gathers and summarizes the most relevant and timely threat intelligence based on organization-specific attributes and cyber threat exposure levels.

Five New Agentic Solutions From Microsoft Security Partners

  • The privacy breach response agent from OneTrust examines data breaches and offers tailored guidance to privacy teams on meeting specific regulatory requirements following an incident.  
  • The network supervisor agent from Aviatrix identifies root causes and summarizes issues with the VPN gateway or the site2cloud connection, including outages and failures.  
  • The SecOps tooling Agent from Blue Voyant reviews a Security Operations Center (a team that monitors and responds to security issues) and its controls, then suggests ways to improve security operations, controls, and complaints.  
  • The alert triage agent from Tanium provides analysts with the relevant context for each alert, enabling them to quickly and confidently determine the right response.  
  • The task optimizer agent from Fletch helps organizations predict and prioritize the most important cyber threat alerts, addressing alert fatigue and the challenge of impossible‑to‑prove security.  

New AI-Powered Data Security Investigations and Analysis 

We are also introducing Microsoft Purview Data Security Investigations to help security teams quickly find and address risks related to sensitive data exposure. These investigations use AI-powered content analysis to identify sensitive data and other risks associated with incidents. Investigators can use these understandings to work securely with partner teams and simplify complex tasks, enabling faster mitigation. This solution connects data security investigations to Defender incidents and Purview Insider Risk cases and will be available for preview in April 2025.  

Further Advances in Securing and Governing Generative AI 

A strong cybersecurity foundation drives successful AI transformation. As more organizations adapt generative AI, securing and managing how they create and use AI at work becomes even more important. Our new report, Secure Employee Access in the Age of AI, reveals that 57% of organizations report more security incidents due to AI use, although most recognize the need for AI controls. Sixty percent have not yet implemented them.  

Securing AI is a new challenge, and leaders are especially concerned about data oversharing, new threats and vulnerabilities, and compliance. Microsoft security solutions are designed for AI to help address these issues with new advanced features that protect AI investments, whether for organizations.  

AI Security Posture Management For Multimodal And Multi-Cloud Environments 

Organizations building their own AI solutions need to strengthen security for AI models running on different platforms and clouds. To help with this, Microsoft Defender now offers AI security posture management for Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. It also supports Google Vertex AI and all models in the Azure AI Foundry catalog. Starting in May 2025, this will cover models like Gemini, Gamma, Meta, LLaMA, Mistral, and custom models. With this new multi-cloud support, organizations can see their AI security posture from code to runtime across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud. Microsoft Defender Health organizations get started with AI security across multiple models and clouds.  

New Detection And Protection From Emerging AI Threats 

AI introduces new risks, such as more revenue for cyberattacks and undiscovered vulnerabilities. The Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) lists the top risks and solutions for generative AI apps. Starting in May 2025, Microsoft Defender will offer new and improved AI detections for several OWASP-identified risks, such as indirect prompt injection attacks, sensitive data exposure, and wallet abuse. These new detections will help SOC analysts better protect custom AI apps, with added safeguards for Azure OpenAI service and models in the Azure AI Foundry catalog.  

New Controls To Prevent Risky Access And Data Leaks Into Covert AI Apps 

As more people use generative AI (AI that can create text, images, and other content), many organizations are finding that employees are using AI apps that have not been approved by IT or security teams. This unapproved use, known as Shadow AI (the use of AI tools without company oversight), has greatly increased the risk of sensitive data leaks. To help with this, we are announcing the general availability of the NEI web category filter in Microsoft Intranet Internet Access (a service for managing secure internet connections). This feature lets organizations set detailed access permissions and enforce policies about which users and groups can use different AI applications.  

After setting access policies for AI apps, the next step is to stop users from entering sensitive data into them. To help, we are launching a preview of Microsoft Purview Browser Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls in Microsoft Edge for business. Security teams can now enforce DLP policies and prevent sensitive data from being entered into generative AI apps. This starts with ChatGPT, Copilot Chat, DeepSeek, and Google Gemini. New Phishing Protection In Microsoft Teams For Safer Collaboration 

Email is still the main way phishing attacks happen, but collaboration tools are now common targets too. Starting in April 2025, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 will provide built-in protection against phishing and other advanced threats in Teams. Teams will be safer from harmful links and attachments. Thanks to instant scanning, SOC teams will also get full visibility into related attempts and incidents, with alerts and data available in Microsoft Defender.

Google started its March 2026 core update on March 27. This marks the year’s first major algorithm change. The update was announced on the Google Search Status Dashboard. It is designed to better identify and reward top-quality content. It follows a spam update from two days earlier. The core update will affect all global search results in about two weeks. Early ranking changes show Google is re-examining what counts as helpful and trustworthy information.  

The Architecture of the March 2026 Core Update 

Broad core updates make results more relevant by changing how Google defines content quality. This is different from technical fixes. The March 2026 updates review the entire index. Google says these changes do not penalize specific pages. Instead, they highlight pages that offer a better user experience. If a site’s visibility drops, the algorithm finds sources that better meet user needs.  

One main goal of this update is to improve how Google understands content meaning. Early data show the system now better distinguishes between original, thoughtful reporting and generic summaries. This aligns with a broader trend known as information gain. Search engines now focus on content that offers new facts, data, or viewpoints. The March 5, 2026, update highlights creators who share original research or firsthand experience that is not available elsewhere.  

Overlapping Volatility and the Spam Update 

The timing of this core update stands out. It lands just after the March 2024 spam update, which started on March 24 and finished in less than a day. Their close succession has increased ranking volatility. The spam update targets manipulative tactics such as cloaking, link schemes, and the abuse of scaled content. The core update reassesses overall content value. Because these updates are so close together, site owners struggle to determine why their traffic changed. Sites may be affected by both the removal of manipulative signals and the re-ranking of quality factors.  

Industry tracking tools show extreme volatility scores, ranging from 9.5 out of 10. These sharp changes mean search results are shifting in areas like finance, health, and local services. For many publishers, this is the most unstable period since late 2025. Recent spam updates have moved much faster than before. This shows Google’s automated systems now respond quickly. There is little chance that grey-hat tactics will recover.  

Stricter Requirements for Autonomy and Expertise 

The 2026 search landscape now focuses more on author credentials and overall site authority. The March update highlights the importance of experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T). This is especially true for topics labeled as your money or your life (YMYL). Since the rollout began, pages with clear, verified authors and proven subject expertise have maintained better rankings than anonymous or general-interest sites.  

Authoritativeness now depends on a website’s consistency, not just on individual pages or the algorithm. Sites that show deep expertise in related topics are called topical clusters. Sites with thin or scattered content across many unrelated subjects are more at risk in this update. This favors a focused content strategy. In-depth coverage of a specific theme counts more than sheer volume. As a result, professional reporting and niche sites are rising above broad aggregators.  

Analyzing Intent and User Journey Completion 

The March 2026 update also improves how Google matches search intent. Google can now better tell when someone wants a quick answer or needs detailed research. If a user wants something simple, the system shows short, direct information. If the research is complex, it highlights longer, in-depth guides. Websites that do not align their content with user intent are seeing significant changes in click-through rates.  

This focus on intent also covers how well a page works. Even a high-quality article is a problem if it is hard to find or too slow to read. The update shows that quality means not just good information but also easy access to it. Businesses now need to review both their content and their website’s technical setup to keep up with the new 2026 standards.  

The Pulse Of The Digital Index 

These algorithm changes are quietly changing how we share and find knowledge online. The internet is being reorganized to better understand what people want to know. Search results are now more than lists or links. They reflect our real questions and interests over time. Search may feel more like a conversation, with useful and expert information standing out. In this way, the algorithm helps protect the quality of our digital history. Important insights are easier to find and are not lost among less helpful content.

Apple announced that new companies are joining its American Manufacturing Program (AMP), underscoring the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing advanced manufacturing and the production of key components in the United States. Apple is teaming up with Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity to produce key materials and components in the U.S. for Apple products sold globally. This effort will create jobs and strengthen American manufacturing. Apple plans to invest $400 million in these new programs by 2030.

By collaborating with partners like Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics, we are expanding Apple’s US supply chain through AMP. This expansion builds on AMP’s progress as part of Apple’s $600 billion four-year plan to support US manufacturing and innovation. For the first time, Apple’s long-term partner TDK will manufacture sensors for Apple in the US. The two companies, partners for over 30 years, have worked on advanced tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors used in iPhone camera stabilization. TDK’s US facility will produce TMR sensors for devices worldwide and increase Apple’s US-sourced chips.  

Apple, Bosch, and TMC will team up to make integrated circuits (ICs) for Bosch’s new sensing hardware at TNC’s facility in CAMES, Washington. These ICs are important for features like crash detection, activity tracking, and elevation in Apple products.  

Apple is also partnering with Cerus Logic and GlobalFoundries to establish new semiconductor process technologies at GlobalFoundries’ facility in Malta, New York. For the first time, GlobalFoundries will provide its latest silicon process in the US to support critical technologies in Apple products. This partnership enables Cerus Logic to develop mixed-signal solutions for Apple users, including advanced ICs for Face ID systems.  

Qnity Electronics and HD Microsystems will supply advanced materials and technologies for semiconductor and electronics production. This partnership will drive innovation in high-performance computing and AI, help produce key US components, and support America’s leadership in advanced technology.  

Apple supports American jobs and manufacturing with Apple Manufacturing Academy, which launched last fall in Detroit. The Academy provides small and medium-sized manufacturers with hands-on training in AI, automation, and smart manufacturing. So far, it has trained nearly 150 businesses through numerous free in-person and online programs.  

The Academy will hold its first spring forum from April 30 to May 1 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
